Due to the increasing online fraud incidents in the country, PFRDA has added more security to NPS accounts. Now, users can authenticate using Aadhaar with two factors through PFRDA.

The pension regulatory organization has announced a better security system. Starting from April 1, 2024, all users who log in with passwords to the NPS’s Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) system must now use a new security feature called two-factor Aadhaar authentication. This new feature will add extra security to the login process of the CRA system, aiming to enhance security and safeguard the interests of subscribers and stakeholders.
To add extra security to accessing the CRA system, users will now need to combine their usual user ID and password login with Aadhaar-based authentication. NPS customers must finish the Aadhaar authentication and enter the OTP sent to their registered phone number to access their accounts under this enhanced security setup.

Using 2-factor Authentication with an Aadhaar OTP (one-time password), User IDs of Nodal offices under the Government Sector (Central/State/CAB/SAB) must be allowed to log in to the CRA system (CRA & NPSCAN. To enable underlying users to start Aadhaar Mapping, the Oversight Office (PrAO/DTA) must first link their Aadhaar with their specific CRA User ID. Similarly,, for underlying DDOs to start Aadhaar linking, PAO/DTO must link their Aadhaar with their corresponding CRA User ID.
Currently, Nodal Offices from Central and State Governments and their Autonomous organizations use a password to access the CRA for NPS transactions. The CRA system is enhancing security by switching to Aadhaar-based authentication for login, aiming to protect the subscribers and stakeholders. This change will integrate Aadhaar-based login authentication with the existing User ID and password login mechanism to enable two-factor authentication for accessing the CRA system.
