Sale of Hamilton Ndlovu's Mansion Auctioned at R7.1 Million

News: A recent announcement revealed the sale of a luxurious Bryanston residence, allegedly linked to the controversial entrepreneur Hamilton Ndlovu, for a staggering sum of R7.1 million at an auction. This event has ignited significant interest and discussion, prompting a comprehensive investigation into the related details. The property, which belongs to Ndlovu and his company, Zaisan Kaihaatsu Ltd, has garnered considerable attention recently due to its alleged involvement in PPE fraud.

The Allegations and Auction

Allegedly embroiled in PPE fraud, the lavish Bryanston mansion faced auction proceedings after the North Gauteng High Court dismissed a plea to halt the sale. Ultimately, the opulent property changed hands for a sum of R7.1 million. These auction proceedings came in the wake of accusations that companies led by Ndlovu had secured PPE tenders worth R172 million from the National Health Laboratory Services under controversial circumstances.

The Special Tribunal Investigation

The Special Tribunal, set up to scrutinize the contracts awarded to Ndlovu’s firms, decreed that Ndlovu and any other firms implicated, ought to reimburse R158 million along with applicable interest. The Special Investigation Unit, which had been delving into the alleged corruption, applauded this decision. The verdict also halted a request from Zaisan Khaihatsu Pvt. Ltd, a company associated with Ndlovu, led by Nokuthula Mokoena as the single director.

The SIU and NHLS Offer

The SIU, in conjunction with the National Health Laboratory Services, conceded to an offer of R7.1 million for the Bryanston residence as part of their ongoing investigation. The intent behind this acceptance was to recuperate the financial damages borne by NHLS and the wider public. As per the conclusive order by the Special Tribunal, the luxury residence was auctioned off in July 2023.

The SIU Spokesperson Statement

Kaizer Kganyago, the spokesperson for the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), revealed that an investigation had exposed how the companies associated with Ndlovu had exploited the emergency procedures put in place by the NHLS in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SIU scrutinized the bank statements of Ndlovu’s shell companies, as well as those of individuals connected to them. This inquiry was conducted under Proclamation R23 of 2020, which had been authorized by President Cyril Ramaphosa to probe allegations of corruption and wrongdoing in the procurement of goods and services aimed at addressing the COVID-19 crisis.

NHLS Contract Funds Examination

Upon closer examination of the wealth generated through NHLS contracts, it became evident that only a fraction, approximately R15 million, was actually allocated for the procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE). The bulk of the funds did not align with the stipulated PPE procurement outlined in the NHLS contract.

Furthermore, the sale of Hamilton Ndlovu’s mansion for R7.1 million at an auction has garnered significant attention in light of the alleged PPE corruption. The decision by the North Gauteng High Court to dismiss the plea to halt the auction has ensured the ongoing investigation. The Special Tribunal’s ruling, demanding that Ndlovu and other implicated companies reimburse R158 million with interest, has been seen as a significant step toward accountability.

The SIU’s inquiry into the alleged corruption has shed light on the misuse of emergency procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the recovery of losses incurred by NHLS and the general public remains the central focus of this case.
